Gold Cup next for RED

We’re all still over the moon with Definitly Red’s awesome Cheltenham win at the weekend and more importantly pleased to say he came back fine and ate up. It’s very exciting to have a horse good enough to run in the Gold Cup, never mind with a very real chance, and it’s just a matter of keeping him right until then. Andy Robertson does a superb job at minding him so fingers crossed we’ll be back at Cheltenham in six weeks time!

Talking to Andrew Dietz of the Racing Post yesterday Brian said: "The Gold Cup is quite open this year. Might Bite is favourite but I don't think the form of the King George looks that strong. Red has every chance and could be overpriced...

DEFINITLY RED takes Gold Cup trial in style

DEFINITLY RED put in an awesome and gutsy performance to take the Grade 2, BetBright Trial Cotswold Chase by eight lengths at Cheltenham yesterday.

Danny Cook partnered Phil Martin’s nine-year-old and gave him a cracking ride. Always handy, he tracked the leader, Perfect Candidate, who set a good pace before being joined by American approaching fence number 10. As Perfect Candidate missed the twelfth and dropped back, Red moved up to join American at the head of the field...

TOTALIZE wins following lengthy absence

Danny Cook partnered TOTALIZE to a decisive victory in the 1m7½f Novices' Chase at Catterick yesterday.

Making his chasing debut he jumped most of the fences well, only missing a couple, and travelled well for much of the race. Always handy, moving up into second to track the odds-on favourite Kelka, after the fourth, he joined the favourite turning in to jump the third last more or less upsides. Battling gamely, he took it up after the final fence and kept on really well to score by nine lengths.

We were delighted with both performances at Sedgefield yesterday, in what were testing conditions, and it was good to be back among the winners with three victories in two days. Let’s hope it can continue!

INSTANT REPLAY made a winning debut over fences taking the 2m3½f Novices' Handicap Chase sponsored by Brian Ellison Racing. Once he got over the first two fences his jumping was awesome and, a big horse with a long stride, it wasn’t long before Henry (Brooke) let him bowl along in front....

WINDSOR AVENUE made an impressive winning debut for us taking the closing 2m1f bumper by nine lengths. Partnered by Brian Hughes, he travelled really well through out, tracking the leader on the inside, before taking it up over two furlongs from home...

CRACKDELOUST back to winning form

CRACKDELOUST bounced back to form with success in the 2m3½f Handicap Hurdle at Catterick yesterday. Brian Hughes partnered the six-year-old for owner Phil Martin and, settled in mid-division towards the outside, he travelled strongly and jumped well for much of the race. Gradually creeping closer from four out, he moved smoothly into the lead approaching the second last. Jumping the final flight well, he kept on to the line to win by two and a quarter lengths...

Back-to-back wins for SERENITY NOW

SERENITY NOW was given a good ride by Abbie McCain to take the 1m6f Amateur Riders' Handicap at Southwell yesterday.

Settled in mid-division, he travelled strongly for much of the race. Switched wide to make progress round the outside of the field from halfway, he was third turning in. Staying on well in the last quarter mile, he took it up with a furlong to run and kept on well to the line to post a two-and-a-half length victory. A winner at the track seven days, Serenity Now, who is now 10 years old...

SERENITY NOW wins at Southwell

SERENITY NOW enjoyed the change back to the flat yesterday with victory in the Betway Stayer’s Handicap at Southwell.

Drawn on the outside of the eight-runner field, Stevie Donohoe settled him towards the rear on the outside for much of the race before moving up to sit in behind the leaders three from home. Taking it up with a quarter mile left to run he kept on well to the line to score by one and three-quarter lengths...

BORDEAUX BILL wins at Wetherby

BORDEAUX BILL appreciated the step up in trip taking the three-mile Novices’ Chase at Wetherby in good style under Danny Cook yesterday.

With two non-runners, just three went to post and Bordeaux Bill got a nice lead off Sharp Response for much of the race. Traveling strongly, he jumped into the lead four from home and soon put a couple of lengths between himself and the one time leader. Jumping the three remaining fences well he coasted home by nine lengths...
