Game performance by BALLYVIC BORU to take the bumper at Musselburgh

BALLYVIC BORU saved the day at Musselburgh this weekend following disappointing runs from several of our representatives.

Partnered by Kaine Wood, he made all and stayed on gamely when challenged to take the closing bumper by three-parts of a length from the odds-on favorite Beyond The Clouds, on the second and final day of Scottish Cheltenham Trials Weekend. It was a good performance and we were delighted to leave with a winner!

Definitly Red entered in National

There were several early closing entries this week including the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on 1st April and the Grand National which takes place the following Saturday on 8th April 2017. We entered three in the Lincoln, Top Notch Tonto, Dream Walker and Fort Bastion. We also made an entry for the Grand National! Definitly Red.

There is nothing definite about Red lining up in the National at this stage, it is merely an option, an exciting one never the less, and a lot will depend on how he schools over the Grand National fences which are built on Malton gallops schooling ground leading up to the race...

SAM wins his third bumper

SAM'S ADVENTURE defied a double penalty and continued our good run when staying on well to take the two-mile bumper at Ayr yesterday.

Kaine Wood partnered the four-year-old Black Sam Bellamy gelding who was bred by Richard Johnson and runs in the colours of Mrs Julie Martin. Settled in mid-division towards the outside he travelled well for much of the race, taking closer order to sit in behind the leaders six furlongs from home. Pushed along to take the lead two out he stayed on strongly under Kaine’s driving, passing the post three lengths clear of his nearest rival with ears pricked!

Sedgefield double courtesy of VOLVALIEN & BORDEAUX BILL

VOLVALIEN made all to take the Brian Ellison Racing Chase under a good ride by Henry Brooke. He jumped well throughout and kept on gamely after the last to score by three-parts of a length. He was fitted with a tongue-tie once again and wore first time cheek-pieces on this occasion...

BORDEAUX BILL followed up half an hour later with a very likeable winning debut over hurdles taking the 2m4f Novices´ Hurdle by 11 lengths. Henry Brooke was once again doing the steering and, settled in rear, made steady progress four out before taking it up after the second last. His jumping had been good bar hitting the last but he made a good recovery and kept on nicely to win very comfortably indeed...

FOREST lands Grade 2 at Doncaster

FOREST BIHAN took the Sky Bet Lightning Novices´ Chase at Doncaster yesterday under a great ride by Aidan Coleman.

He only faced three rivals in the Grade 2 event but it was a competitive contest non-the-less and our lad went off third favourite at 7/2. Settled out the back, Forest travelled strongly for much of the race and jumped well until missing the third last which nearly had Aidan out of the saddle! He recovered well however, jumped the last two and stayed on powerfully after the last to win going away by a length and three-quarters from Cloudy Dream...

Across-the-card double yesterday courtesy of NIETZSCHE & ROYAL FLAG

NIETZSCHE & Megan Carberry followed up their recent success at Market Rasen with another good performance to take the 2m3½f Handicap Hurdle at Catterick yesterday...

ROYAL FLAG put in a game performance to take the two-mile Handicap under a good ride by Tom Eaves at Newcastle. Sitting second, as they crawled round for a good mile and a quarter, Tom injected some pace in to the race as he took it up with five to run. Kicking for home three out, Royal Flag kept on gamely when challenged in the final furlong, to score by a neck...

Update on Red

Definitly Red is absolutely fine after unseating Henry Brooke in the Peter Marsh Handicap Chase at Haydock on Saturday. He hated the ground, which was riding dead, but was staying on again before swerving to miss Vintage Clouds who fell three from home. Brian believes he would have finished third, if not second. He will have an easy week now.

NIETZSCHE wins at Market Rasen

NIETZSCHE & Megan Carberry landed the 2m2½f Conditional Jockeys´ Handicap Hurdle in good style at Market Rasen yesterday.

The four-year-old Poets Voice gelding was fitted with a hood as he stepped up in trip but was still very keen with Megan as he fought his way towards the head of affairs having initially jumped off out the back. In front jumping the fourth, he pulled his way back to the front ahead of the fifth having temporarily lost the lead and was headed again at the seventh, before hitting the front with two to jump...

We were delighted with the way FOREST BIHAN won at Newcastle yesterday. He only had two rivals in the 2m½f Novices’ Chase but he travelled with ease and jumped well throughout under Brian Hughes. He never came off the bridle and won eased down...
