EYES OF A TIGER two from two over fences

EYES OF A TIGER remained unbeaten over fences yesterday when taking the 2m½f Novices’ Handicap Chase at Fakenham under a good ride by Tom Scudamore.

Despite only one opponent, the Paddy Brennan-ridden Stynes, it was a surprisingly exciting race with a strong gallop set as they both jumped off and vied for the lead. Stynes led over the first before Eyes Of A Tiger took it up and led for the remainder of the race. He travelled and jumped well, getting in close to a couple if anything, and although he looked to be idling after the last was always doing enough. He won by a length and it was a pleasing performance...

WHITECLIFF PARK wins well at Newcastle

WHITECLIFF PARK ran out a decisive winner of the northsealogistics.co.uk Handicap at Newcastle yesterday evening.

Partnered by Ben Robinson, the four-year-old Canford Cliffs gelding was trying the extended two-miles for the first time having previously run over a mile-and-a-half. Drawn widest of all, he completely missed the break but pushed a long, Ben soon had him settled in mid-division. Niggled a long in places he was travelling well three from home as he crept up on the outside...

Two new additions to the yard this week

We have an exciting new addition to our National Hunt team with Contre Tous, a lovely five-year-old gelding by Forestier, previously trained by Paul Nicholls for the Million in Mind partnership...

Soldier Blue also found a new home at Spring Cottage Stables this week. A nice looking three-year-old gelding by Sepoy, a lovely individual, previously trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin...

Goffs UK Spring Horses-in-Training Sale 2017

It’s the second and final day of the Spring Horses In Training Sale at Doncaster today and Spring Cottage Stables has a draft of nine catalogued to go through the ring.

They include Jac The Legend (Lot 528), a real likeable eight-year-old gelding by Midnight Legend and Volvalien (Lot 565), an eight-year-old gelded son of Network, who has won twice and been placed a further three times...

EYES OF A TIGER wins chasing debut in good style

All seven horses ran really well yesterday which was very reassuring following a fairly quiet time of late!

It was EYES OF A TIGER, partnered by Danny Cook, who got us back in the winner’s enclosure with a very pleasing performance to take the 2m3½f Novices’ Chase at Sedgefield.

Making his chasing debut and stepping up in trip, Danny jumped off in front and made all on Phil Martins six-year-old. Often very keen, he was fitted with a hood once again and looked to thoroughly enjoy things out in front, jumping and travelling well throughout. Kicking on from the second last he galloped all the way to the line and saw the trip out well...

The 2016/17 National Hunt season

The 2016/17 National Hunt Season came to a close on Saturday, April 29th and we wound up the season with 45 winners from 230 runners at a strike rate of 20%.

There were some real highlights this year with the most obvious being Definitly Red taking part in the Grand National. It was not to be however and he was pulled up when his saddle spun round under his belly after being badly hampered at Becher's first time. We had terrific support and it was an experience we certainly won't forget.

Seven horses came out and won three apiece, Definitly Red, Forest Bihan, Nietzsche, Dominada, Pistol Park, Apterix and Shearling and although we only just missed out, agonisingly, by a head, at Aintree to pick up a Grade One with Forest Bihan, he won the Grade 2 Sky Bet Lightning Novices' Chase at Doncaster in good style despite a mistake three out...

Football: Brian Ellison v David O’Meara

26th March 2107 was not only Mother’s Day, it was the day Brian Ellison’s team managed to keep hold of the Racing Welfare Northern Football Trophy, beating David O'Meara's team 4-3.

The game took place at Malton Community Sports Centre and was a gripping game where most of the goals came in the second half. Our four goals came courtesy of James Killeen, Kevin Stott, Matt Brown – Matt would have been awarded goal of the match if there had been such a prize with a cracking shot that would not have been misplaced in the Xbox game Fifa! And finally, our Captain, David Cottle put the finishing touches on a superb game with a neatly placed shot straight into the back of the net...

Definitly Red & Forest Bihan on Holiday

Definitly Red and Forest Bihan are on holiday following their runs at Aintree last weekend. Both came home fine, not a bother on either of them and they will enjoy the summer out now.

Definitly Red enjoyed no luck in running in the Grand National when, looking to be enjoying the occasion, was badly hampered at Becher's first time around, subsequently putting him out of the race.

Talking to David Carr of the Racing Post, Brian said: "Definitly Red jumped like a buck but the horse fell in front of him and Danny did well to stay on."
