Ben Robinson - Apprentice (5)

Ben has been with us since October 2014. He works hard, rides well and has a very likeable attitude. Ben received his Apprentice license at the beginning of 2016 having completed the Apprentice Jockey License Course at the British Racing School in January '16.

He works hard on his fitness, stamina and use of the whip. The Apprentice Continuation Courses are set up to help develop these skills and more and Ben has attended several at the BRS.

Ben’s first ride was aboard Hello Beautiful at Redcar on March 28th, 2016. Little over a year later Ben partnered his 20th career winner at Hamilton on June 7th, 2017 subsequently reducing his 7lb claim to 5lbs.

He partnered eight winners from 57 rides as an amateur and got off the mark on his first ride under National Hunt rules when successful aboard Bengali Song in a bumper at Southwell for fellow Malton trainer Neville Bycroft.

With 10 winners from 35 rides in his first season as a conditional, Kaine has partnered Our Kylie to back to back victories at Sedgefield this season, the second of those taking him to 20 career victories, which subsequently saw his claim drop from 7lbs to 5lbs. Having taken out his Jumps License this season, Connor rode six times over hurdles in Ireland before making the move to England to join our team here. Connor has been schooling a good few already and a career in the National Hunt field looks very promising!

The 2016/17 National Hunt season has come to a close (April 29th, 2017) and we ended the season with 45 winners at a strike rate of 20%. Danny Cook, Brian Hughes & Henry Brooke partnered a number of our runners in additional to our Conditional Kaine Wood.

As our focus switches to the Flat, Ben Curtis (pictured), who enjoyed his best season to date numerically in 2016, will once again be riding a lot for us, in addition to Tom Eaves and both jockeys come in regularly to ride work. We’ll also be using our apprentice Ben Robinson a lot this year (see above).

Our policy generally is to use the best jockey available who’s riding style most suits our horse that day. Some owners also have their own jockey preferences and we always try to accommodate when possible.
