POWER OF ZEUS took the six-furlong Maiden at Ripon in impressive style on Monday (28 August 2023) in the hands of Graham Lee.

Nudged a long in mid-field before making progress two out, the son of Territories stayed on powerfully in the final furlong to win going away with ears pricked.

It was only his second career start and we were delighted for owner Keith Brown, who was not at the races due to a flu bug, but talked from his home to David Carr of the Racing Post afterwards, saying: “I’m gutted I’m not there because he looks a class act.

“I knew he was a good athlete. In his first race he didn’t know his backside from his elbow – he was tailed off. Then he improved and improved so I knew there was a chance he’d do something, but I’m shocked – in an extremely nice way.

“He might have a good future. I know I’ve got something nice and I’m curious to see what we actually do have.”

“I’ve been in racing virtually all my life and it has its frustrations. The chances of ordinary people like me getting a good horse are very small, but I’ve been there and bought the T-shirt.”
