Despite running green and babyish at times GORDON’S JET made all to win his debut over hurdles at Chepstow on Friday. Tom Scudamore had to sit tight on occasion as he wandered around and put in a couple of novicey leaps but despite a particularly hair-raising moment on landing after the last, he kept on well to win the two-mile β€œNational Hunt” Maiden Hurdle a shade more cosily than the winning margin of three parts of a length might suggest.

Talking after the race, Tom Scudamore said: β€œHe’s a nice horse. He obviously showed his inexperience there, it wasn’t ideal having to make the running, but nobody else wanted to.

β€œThe main thing is, once he got inside the wings he knew what he was doing and even at the last he was clever at it. I was just conscious all the time, get him in the wings and he’ll find a leg. He’s a good jumper, he just needs more experience.Β Even when he was awkward at the first, it was just something a little bit different for him.

β€œHe’s got the job done and he’s got an engine.”

A five-year-old by Jet Away, he came to us from Ireland in February, having run three times in bumpers, winning the first of those, towards the end of last year when in the care of Gordon Elliott.

He had been doing everything we asked at home, been away for a racecourse gallop and had schooled quite well at home too. Absolutely delighted for the horse and to train a first winner for owner Patrick Boyle.
