LAST APPLAUSE got off the mark on her second career start with a comfortable success in the seven-furlong EBF Restricted Novice Stakes at Catterick yesterday.

Partnered by Ben (Robinson), the daughter of Acclamation, who went off joint 2-1 favourite, broke well and travelled well before battling gamely with the other joint favourite Ribble Radiant two from home. Taking the lead inside the final furlong she stayed on strongly, pulling away to score by three and a quarter lengths. She was following up a good third over six at Newcastle on her racecourse debut last month.

Talking to Charlie Huggins reporting for the Racing Post, after the race Brian said: β€œI thought she’d win. She’s improved from her first run and even today, Ben said the ground was soft enough for her, so she did well.

β€œI think the all-weather suits her and the turf suits her, but I wouldn’t run her too many times on heavy ground like today. You just want to get that win out the way.”

β€œWe think she’ll be a nice filly. She’s won now and whether she’d run again I don’t know.”
