Owners who secure sponsorship for their racing activities can register for VAT.

Owners can reclaim VAT on the purchase price of their horse (if applicable) and this can be claimed up to four years after the purchase of the horse if owned 100%.

Owners can also reclaim VAT on their racing expenses – including training fees, transport costs, veterinary fees and jockeys fees – backdated up to six months. (racehorseowners.net)

Promote Your Business With Racehorse Sponsorship

Huge commercial opportunities are available for businesses to promote their company and products through horse racing. The sponsor can advertise their business in a number of ways to maximize promotion at the racecourse.

Options available for the promotion of businesses:

• Branding on attendants clothing – Jackets, sweatshirts, shirts
• Branding on horse clothing – rugs and sheets
• Branding on jockey’s colours – on the chest, collar and breeches

The above will be in full view of the public and television cameras in the following areas of a racecourse:

• In any stabling area or horse box
• In the pre-parade and parade ring
• On the race-track
• In the winners enclosure and any other saddling area

An owner-sponsorship agreement form outlining the terms and conditions, must be signed by both parties. This must then be registered with Weatherbys. The contract will proceed 28 days after publication in the Racing Calendar.

The sum of the sponsorship is agreed between the Owner and the Sponsor. The sponsor is asked to pay for the logos and the attendants/horse clothing. Owners will already have their own set of colours.
