OUR KYLIE back to winning ways

OUR KYLIE put a disappointing run in the Mares Handicap Hurdle at Galway last month well and truly behind her with a comfortable victory in the 2m1f Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield yesterday.

Partnered by Kaine Wood, the daughter of Jeremy looked much happier than she did in Galway, skipping a long in third and jumping well throughout. Moving up into second before two out, she took the lead approaching the last and kept on well to the line...

Connor King joins the team

We are delighted to welcome Connor King to our team here at Spring Cottage Stables. With 125 Flat winners to his name and the 2013 & 2015 Irish Champion Apprentice Jockey titles, Connor has been associated with trainers such as David Wachman, Johnny Murtagh, Joseph O’Brien and Enda Bolger.

Having taken out his Jumps License this season, Connor rode six times over hurdles in Ireland before joining our team here last week. Brian has had him schooling a good few already in the short time he has been here and a career in the National Hunt field looks promising!

An update on Seamour & Dream Walker

Seamour is absolutely fine following his run in the Ebor at the weekend. No excuses really, he had every chance before getting hampered. He’ll more than likely go to Doncaster for the Mallard Stakes next...

Dream Walker arrived back safe and sound yesterday. There was not enough pace on for him in the Irish Cambridgeshire and he probably would have preferred softer ground too but he needs a strong run race like he got in Galway...

Top Notch Tonto to return to Spring Cottage for Open Day next month

We are delighted to be part of the Malton Stables Open Day or the Malton Festival of Racing as it has been renamed, once again this year and we will, along with 14 other trainers in the area, be opening our doors on Sunday, September 17th, from 9am until 12noon.

Although we have a number of well known horses in the yard, including Definitly Red who took part in this year’s Grand National, and Forest Bihan, beaten a head in the Grade 1 Doom Bar Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree this year, Top Notch Tonto has always been the fan’s favourite and having taken this into consideration we have arranged for Tonto, who is currently on a well-earned holiday, to return to Spring Cottage Stables next month...

Return to all weather sees WHITECLIFF PARK back in winner’s enclosure

WHITECLIFF PARK enjoyed the return back to the all weather when running out a comfortable winner of the 2m½f Handicap at Wolverhampton yesterday.

Partnered by Ben Robinson, he was slowly away but soon caught up to the rest of the field and was settled towards the rear for much of the race. Nudged a long three out, he switched wide turning in and hit the front a furlong from home. He saw out the trip well, going on to score by four and a half lengths eased down...

Across the card double with SPECIALV & FROZON

SPECIALV kept on well to take the six-furlong Handicap at Haydock yesterday under a good ride by Ben Curtis. Settled towards the rear of the field, she travelled well in to the race. Ridden from the two marker she took it up inside the final furlong and stayed on well to the wire to win a shade cozily in the end.

FROZON completed our across-the-card double when taking the 1m4f Handicap at Wolverhampton. Partnered by Ben Robinson, he travelled well in mid-division before making good headway four from home. Pushed along into third three out, he took it up inside the final furlong and kept on well to the line...

ECHO bolts up at Pontefract

ECHO OF LIGHTNING bolted up in the Riu Hotels And Resorts Ladies Day Veterans Handicap at Pontefract yesterday under a good ride by Ben Robinson.

Racing went ahead following a precautionary inspection due to the persistent rain during the 24 hours leading up to raceday but resulted in a bunch of non-runners and Echo Of Lightning faced only three rivals in the one mile contest...

DREAM WALKER leads home 1-2-3 in ‘Ahonoora’

A truly awesome result with a fourth successive victory in the ‘Ahonoora’ Handicap at Galway yesterday as DREAM WALKER led home Baraweez and Be Kool in an amazing 1-2-3 for the yard.

Chris Hayes once again partnered Dream Walker, winner of the race last year, and as they set a strong gallop up front in testing conditions, Dream Walker was settled out the back before making good progress two out. He stayed on strongly in the final half furlong to get up close home...

NORTHGATE LAD made all to win feature race at Newcastle

NORTHGATE LAD was given a great ride from the front by Ben Robinson to take the feature seven-furlong handicap at Newcastle yesterday.

Away well from stall one and with no obvious front-runners in the race, Northgate Lad was soon at the head of the field and dictating the pace with everything else happy to sit in behind. Quickening two from home and ridden from a furlong out he stayed on well to the line to score by half a length...

Devastated to lose Orewa

We were absolutely gutted to have to have Orewa put down on Friday.

He stood on a nail on the road walking up to the gallops a couple of weeks ago and despite being monitored closely an MRI on Thursday showed so much infection, he could not be saved.

A gelded son of Helmet, owned by Keith Brown, Orewa was an absolute super-star winning four of his seven starts as a juvenile including an awesome victory in the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes at the Curragh last September...
