Apterix was given a great ride by Laura Wilson to land the prestigious Queen Mother's Cup at York on Saturday. Settled in behind the leaders, Laura encountered trouble in running before switching to the wide outside with just under two furlongs to run. Apterix picked up gamely and stayed on strongly in the final furlong to lead the last 75 yards...

Everyone was absolutely thrilled to see Top Notch Tonto back in the winner’s enclosure following a comfortable victory in the Ian And Kate Hall Macmillan Ganton Stakes at York. Partnered by Silvestre De Sousa, Tonto was settled in rear off a decent gallop and showed a smart turn of foot in the final furlong to come from last to first to win by a length and a half from Gabrial...

Dominada made all to take the Ukops Juvenile Hurdle at Uttoxeter on Thursday evening in the hands of Richard Johnson.

Lorna Harrison to ride Amaze in Macmillan Charity Race

Lorna Harrison is back in the saddle following a 15-year break and has been riding out at Spring Cottage Stables since last November in a bid to get back in shape to partner Amaze in the Macmillan Charity Race at York on Saturday.

Lorna partnered the seven-year-old Pivotal gelding in his final piece of work yesterday and reported him to be in cracking form ahead of the weekend.

The gelded son of Authorized was settled towards the rear of the field, taking the shortest route round...

Very sad to lose Saptapadi

It was with great sadness we had to have Saptapadi put down this morning. He pulled up lame on the gallops with a fracture to a joint and we were left with no choice but to have him put down.

He was a very special horse to everyone here at Spring Cottage Stables and to no one more so than Claire, Brian and our travelling head lad Andy.

Among his 42 career starts, Saptapadi ran eight times in Australia including the 2011 running of the Melbourne Cup...

EASTERN races to Chester Victory…

Eastern Racer landed the Bottega Gold Prosecco Maiden Stakes under Colm O’Donoghue at Chester on Saturday. The three-year-old Bushranger gelding, who was following up two promising seconds at Thirsk and Ripon respectively, took the shortest route round in the six furlong contest and was always travelling well in behind the leader. Making progress two out, Eastern Racer battled gamely in the closing stages...

Tonto in great form ahead of crack at Group 3 Timeform Jury Stakes

Top Notch Tonto is in great form ahead of the Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock on Saturday and providing the track gets a little more rain he will line up.

Dropping back to seven furlongs for his third start this season, the five-year-old has run with credit on both outings so far this year and although he’s dipping in class to a Group 3, Brian explained its more like a Group 1 contest such is the competition.

With Silvestre De Sousa banned Ben Curtis, who is flying right now, steps in for the ride.

Brian said: “He came back from Newbury fine. It was obviously one of the toughest Lockinge Stakes we’ve seen...

MULTI GRAIN gets up to win at Thirsk

Multi Grain was given a great ride by Dale Swift to land the Join The Racing UK Club Handicap by a short head at Thirsk on Wednesday.

Dropping back down in trip following her reappearance over 1m2f earlier this month, the daughter of Sir Percy was settled in mid-division following a smart break from stall 11. Making progress three out, she stayed on well in the final two furlongs of the mile contest and always looked like she would get there despite the slim margin...
