Lilvanita Second

Lilvanita put in a good performance to finish second in the five furlong Maiden Auction Stakes at Wolverhampton on Wednesday, July 8th, under Silvestre De Sousa. Only her second racecourse appearance, and first on the Tapeta surface, the daughter of Lilbourne Lad was smartly away this time around...

Tattersalls July Sale 2015

The three-day Tattersalls July Sale gets underway on Wednesday July 8th with a 9.30am start scheduled. Selling on Thursday and Friday is split with racing taking place on the July Course during the afternoon as the three-day Moet and Chandon July Festival kicks off on Thursday afternoon.

Spring Cottage Stables consign two, Monsea (Lot 689) and Invincible Wish (Lot 690). Brian and Claire will be in attendance all three days and would be delighted to chat or advise anyone looking to purchase and will be more than happy to view any ‘lots’ of interest...

Very sad to lose Underwritten

We were extremely saddened Underwritten suffered a fatal injury on his first start for us in the 2m Handicap at Thirsk on Wednesday, July 1st. Dale (Swift) was on board and pulled him up after feeling him take a bad step with just over two furlongs to run. On examination he had shattered a leg and the vets were left with no choice but to put him down immediately...

EL MASSIVO wins well at Stratford

EL MASSIVO followed up his victory in a 1m5f Amateur Riders' Handicap at Ayr earlier in June with an easy success in the 19th Of July Is Ladies Day Maiden Hurdle at Stratford on Tuesday. Richard Johnson was on board our five-year-old who was returned the 5/4 favourite. Always handy in the 2m½f contest...

GERRY THE GLOVER lands the finale on Plate day

Although we didn’t leave Newcastle with the one race Brian would dearly love to win we enjoyed a fantastic three days up at Gosforth Park with Gerry The Glover’s victory in the finale on Saturday taking us to six winners for the Northumberland Plate meeting.

And most importantly, as Brian pointed out in his interview on At The Races, all the horses have come back in one piece.

GERRY THE GLOVER (pictured left) from last to first to take the 3yo, 1m Handicap with ease under a good ride by Silvestere De Sousa. The pace was strong, and drawn seven of seven, Gerry The Glover was immediately reined back by Silvestre and dropped in at the rear of the field. Pulled out with over two to run, Julie Martin’s three-year-old stayed on strongly inside the final furlong pulling away to score by two lengths with ears pricked...

Seamour fared best of our Northumberland Plate quartet beaten just two-and-a-quarter lengths into sixth. Silvestre De Sousa partnered our lightly-raced four-year-old and was of the strong opinion the draw (stall 22) beat us. He will be aimed at the Ebor now...

Day two of the Plate meeting at Newcastle and two more winners courtesy of NORTHGATE LAD & OFF THE SCALE

We have enjoyed a fantastic start to the three-day Northumberland Plate Festival at Newcastle this week with a treble on opening day and a double on day two courtesy of Northgate Lad and Off The Scale.

NORTHGATE LAD justified favourtism in the Betfred Gosforth Park Cup taking the Class 2 event in good style under Silvestre De Sousa while OFF THE SCALE got up late to land the Betfred "Watch Fred's Pushes On Betfred Tv" Handicap also in the hands of Silvestre De Sousa...

Great start to the three-day plate meeting with a treble courtesy of PRINCE HELLVELYN, KNIGHTLY ESCAPADE & MYBOYDANIEL

PRINCE HELLVELYN followed up a very promising third on debut at York earlier this month with victory in the six-furlong Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Newcastle. Tom Eaves partnered the gelded son of Hellvelyn...

KNIGHTLY ESCAPADE absolutely bolted up in the 2m Handicap under a super-confident ride by Silvestre De Sousa while MYBOYDANIEL made his handicap debut a winning one when landing the 3yo, seven furlong Handicap, also in the hands of Silvestre De Sousa, thus completing a treble on the day for us...

Fleet Dawn retired

Fleet Dawn has been retired due to injury following his chasing debut at Uttoxeter earlier this month.

Owned by Prism Bloodstock, the nine-year-old was last seen winning at Worcester in May when a step up in trip, drop in class and good to soft ground brought out the best in him to land the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle under a good ride from Felix De Giles. The son of Polish Precedent joined Brian in July 2012 and has been a difficult horse to keep sound with varying leg issues. We were delighted to see him in the winner’s enclosure this year and we’re relieved to see him retired!

Top Of The Glas third in Cumberland Plate

Top Of The Glas ran a blinder to finish third in the Totepool Cumberland Plate at Carlisle on Wednesday. Partnered by Tom Eaves, the Market Avenue Racing Club Ltd-owned four-year-old hugged the rail in behind the leaders for much of the race but didn’t get the clearest of runs through and was briefly short of room until switched right with a furlong to run...

SERENITY NOW wins well at Hexham

SERENITY NOW landed the Toteexacta Pick The 1st And 2nd Handicap Hurdle at Hexham in good style under Conditional jockey, Craig Gallagher, on Sunday. Winner of an Apprentice Handicap at Southwell over 1m4f earlier this year, the seven-year-old was stepping up to 2m4f for his fifth career start over hurdles and, settled in rear, travelled and jumped well before being tapped for toe as they quickened down the far side with two to jump...
